Visual artist and photographer Linda van Boven lives and works in Amsterdam. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and later at the ‘Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera’ in Milan with Luciano Fabro.
Originating from her spatial vision, she has been looking more and more for the quality of color, or for that matter the lack of it, as an element with which the environment can be influenced.
Her photos are characterized by a cinematic look. The photos form fragments of a film that will form a story in your head. The images that emerge in her recent work have to do with memories from her childhood and important events in her life. Although it may sound heavy, it is not the feeling that you are left with. It is rather a sense of hope, "lightness" and future. The overexposure or rather vague lighting and blurring in her photos approach images in your memory, fragmented and foggy. Just as after a dream only the contours of an overexposed looking film linger.
Van Boven often uses images that are familiar to everyone, images that are commonplace. A house, beds, children, a swing are recognizable subjects, showing your own environment. The images will evoke personal memories in almost everyone. The fragments of her work unwittingly create a kind of dear narrative poem that comes to mind from the memory.
